Committee
The Congressional oversight panel has made public a collection of approximately 70 photos obtained from the property of late adjudicated individual convicted of sex crimes Jeffrey Epstein.
This constitutes the third such publication from a tranche of over 95,000 photos the body has obtained from Epstein's estate. It includes pictures of quotes from the literary work Lolita inscribed across a female's body, and redacted photos of female foreign passports.
This disclosure arrives mere hours before the 19th of December deadline for the Justice Department to disclose every documents associated with its inquiry into Epstein.
"These latest images bring up additional questions about what exactly the DOJ has in its custody," said the ranking member of the committee, Robert Garcia.
Several of the photos released on this week feature Epstein speaking with scholar and advocate Noam Chomsky inside a personal aircraft; Bill Gates standing next to a individual whose features is obscured; Steve Bannon seated at a workstation across from Epstein, and previous Alphabet president Sergey Brin at a dinner gathering.
Oversight Panel
These are the newest wealthy, prominent men to be seen in Epstein property photographs disclosed by the oversight panel - earlier published pictures also include US President Donald Trump and former president Bill Clinton, as well as film director Woody Allen, previous US Secretary of the Treasury Larry Summers, attorney Alan Dershowitz, Andrew Mountbatton-Windsor, and other figures.
Appearing in the photographs is is not considered indication of any wrongdoing, and a number of the featured individuals have said they were never participating in Epstein's illegal activity.
In a announcement issued alongside the image release, Lawmakers on the US House Oversight Committee noted the Epstein estate's representatives did not provide background information or timeframes for the photographs.
"Photos were chosen to provide the public with openness into a illustrative selection of the photos acquired from the estate, and to give perspectives into Epstein's associates and his extremely alarming actions," the announcement states.
Oversight Panel
The disclosure also contains several photos of quotes from the Vladimir Nabokov literary work Lolita inscribed in dark ink across various areas of a female's body, such as her chest, foot, hip, and back. Lolita recounts the tale of a young girl who was manipulated by a adult literature professor.
A particular excerpt from the novel inscribed across a female's torso says, "Lolita: the point of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the mouth to land, at three, on the teeth".
The release also contains a number of photographs of women's identification and identification documents from nations globally, such as Lithuania, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
Committee
Most of the information on the IDs, such as names and DOBs, is obscured but the House Oversight Committee said in a statement that the passports belong to "individuals whom Jeffrey Epstein and his conspirators were engaging".
An additional photo depicts Epstein positioned at a desk closely flanked by three female figures whose features have been redacted - one has her hand on Epstein's chest under his shirt, and another is leaning to examine a close-by laptop. Epstein seems to be helping the third fasten a piece of jewelry.
Committee
Another photograph released is a screenshot of SMS messages from an unidentified sender who claims they have been sent "a number of girls" and are asking for "$1000 for each individual".
The panel has thousands of images in its custody from the Epstein holdings, which are "both graphic and mundane," its statement on this week clarified.
The Congressional committee first issued a subpoena to the estate of Epstein, who passed away in a New York jail in 2019 while pending legal proceedings on allegations of human trafficking, in August.
The photos and files the Epstein estate's representatives gave to the body are separate from what is largely called "the Epstein documents". Those files are records within the Department of Justice's possession associated with its separate inquiry into Epstein.
In accordance with the Transparency Act, which the President enacted in November, the DOJ has a deadline of 19 December to release its documents. The full nature of what's contained in the DOJ's files is unclear, and it's likely that a significant portion of the information will be significantly redacted, similar to the committee's materials
