Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was ā€œupbeatā€ during their latest talk.

ā€œWhat reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,ā€ Glenn stated on Wednesday. ā€œHis family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.ā€

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

ā€œNot certain at the moment,ā€ Glenn remarked. ā€œBut I will say this, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.ā€

NYPD shared security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the area between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was transported to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking ā€œa tonā€ since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a newborn.

ā€œWhat immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,ā€ Glenn remarked. ā€œI thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
ā€œA certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.ā€

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in spring and was expected to be a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while working his way back.

ā€œHe’s been a part of what we’re doing,ā€ Glenn said. ā€œCertainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.ā€

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
