Citizens have come together throughout the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as talks advanced in Egypt over a resolution to the war in Gaza.
The attack led to in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as hostages. It was the most most lethal day for Jews since the World War II.
Israel answered by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are seen as trustworthy by the UN and other international bodies.
"The violent adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," the leader stated on that day.
He also pledged to "achieve all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will never again pose a risk to Israel".
The Israeli government postponed state remembrance events until mid-October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but events still were held throughout the country on that day.
A memorial ceremony for the relatives of people who died in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was broadcast throughout Israeli TV networks.
A period earlier, a moment of silence was held across the country.
Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas representatives met in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of indirect talks to review the terms of the plan.
A prominent delegate familiar with the talks said that an night meeting of indirect talks commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.
The representative stated the day's discussions concluded without concrete outcomes, amid differences over the suggested Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not restart fighting after the initial stage of the agreement.
He noted that the negotiations are "difficult and have not yet deliver any major advancement," but noted that intermediaries are making efforts to narrow the disparities between the two sides.
In the city's public square that day, young a woman - whose family member lived through the assault on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were killed and many more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - told: "Nowhere appears as home any longer and until every captive return none of us will feel safe."
"After we see all home returned, we can relax once more. Then we can begin to rebuild," she added.
Outside the prime minister's home in Jerusalem, people gathered to demonstrate their support for the families of the abducted. Israel says nearly fifty stay in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be alive.
Demonstrator a participant explained: "We must do whatever arrangement necessary for the abducted to come back home. But we really want assurances that we will be safe."
Surveys now consistently show that approximately 70% of the population desire the hostilities to end in as payment for the liberation of the captives.
At the site of Nova festival, grieving people assembled to remember the victims.
From the site, the noise of aerial bombardments and shelling could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses said the heavy Israeli attacks continued.
In the urban center, attacks were reported in the early hours of that day in the west side district, sector and locality districts and in the east side area of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the northwest.
"When the evening comes, the anxiety arrives with it," relocated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli bombing earlier, shared.
"My family are fearful of the air strikes. All the night we are lying together, embracing, especially my smallest child who rests his head on me the entire evening."
"Constantly we look at the news to see developments. And I'm worried that this truce will not be completed and that the fighting will come back to us."
Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area said it had received the corpses of half dozen people by the midday, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the southern district.
A different healthcare center in the southern city of that area reported additional dead people had been brought there. A person was died by Israeli soldiers while looking for help to the south, medical staff stated.
