Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Additional Developments

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

Officials reported debris fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
