Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Injury Worries.

'Significant concern' for the English camp as Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the ground early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The right-arm seamer pulled up with his left hamstring post-delivery that he bowled during the morning session.

The touring camp stated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field in order to be assessed "during the day".

The concluding match of the tour beginning on 4 January begins at the end of the week.

The visitors have already lost fast bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer to a side strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.

The seamer had a tough time early in the series, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out from the previous Test, then recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 as a batsman being one of only three England players to reach double figures.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of that over, he bowled a slower ball to Travis Head and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test having missed of the third.
