The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans issued by the US on five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.

EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Coercion’

European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans targeted figures that were at the heart of campaigns to introduce laws regulating US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
