Barry Manilow to Undergo a Procedure for a Lung Cancer Diagnosis.

Barry Manilow announced that he received a diagnosis with cancer of the lung and will undergo an operation.

Early-Stage Diagnosis

The 82-year-old singer, whose parade of high-spirited hits from "Mandy" has made him one of pop music’s most beloved showmen, will have surgery to remove part of his lung in an effort to combat the condition, which is at an early phase.

ā€œFor those who have been following, I recently suffered from six weeks of a severe cough followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

ā€œDespite the fact that I was past the infection and returned to the spotlight in Las Vegas, my attentive medical team ordered an MRI just to ensure that everything was OK.

ā€œThe MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left side that requires removed. It’s incredible chance (and a great doctor) that it was found so early.ā€

Postponed Performances

He has postponed a number of forthcoming concerts, but indicated he would be back on stage by the February holiday for his longstanding residency in Las Vegas.

He added: ā€œThe doctors do not believe it has metastasized and I’m having examinations to confirm their diagnosis. So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiotherapy. Just home remedies and favorite shows.

ā€œI’m looking forward to until I rejoin my familiar venue in Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts.ā€

A Long Career and Personal Life

Manilow is presently in his 16th year of a show in Nevada. The singer has spent decades in the public eye and revealed he is gay in 2017, after wedding his longtime partner and manager in secret in 2014.

The duo were in a clandestine relationship for over 35 years. Last year, Manilow discussed how crucial his husband had been to him during his ascent to stardom in the 1970s.

ā€œDuring my rapid rise to fame, it was just crazy. And, you know, going back to an empty hotel room, you can find yourself in a lot of trouble if you, you know, you’re alone evening after evening,ā€ he said.

ā€œBut I found my partner right around when it was exploding. And I didn’t have to go back to those isolated suites. I had a partner to be vulnerable with or to celebrate with.

ā€œI wish that aspiring artists don’t have to go back to those hotel rooms by themselves, because you might succumb to pitfalls. I never did. But it was quite isolating until I met Garry. And then it was fun.ā€
