Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation

Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot stated.

“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Problems and Player Reaction

The manager highlighted known shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with results this poor.”

He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always fight.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the world.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
