Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he presented his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry says farewell to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
