2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Lead to Boost Challenged Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Change Comes After Lukewarm Reception

The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.

Ismailer noted that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address community desires.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.

Below is the entire text from Ismailer's memo:

Team—

I know you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was enlightening. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to heart and reimagined the title with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our fans.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

His management and expertise in the competitive gaming field is vast, having dedicated the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most popular franchises in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in receiving him next week. We are all excited to persist witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to come.

David
